Cowboy Bebop Review

Story (14/25)
Oh my... the story is pretty bad. When people talk about how amazing the story is, I have to ask myself, "What story?". Only 3-5 episodes even deal with the "story". You can easily just watch episodes 5, 25, and 26 to know the story line. Jet, Faye, and Ed each have an episode or 2 about them and their pasts. Jet's is only about his old cop days and why he has a metal arm. Faye's has like a 2 min clip of her as a kid, and Ed's... was so unimportant I don't even remember it. Now for the real reasons why I dislike it as much as I do...

Spike/Vicious/Julia - All we ever hear about is the syndicate this, and the syndicate that. Well why don't they actually bother explaining something about their pasts? I mean, we don't know anything about why Vicous turned on Spike when they worked together in the syndicate. The whole Julia angle is ridiculous, for the fact that she acted like she loved Vicious then she is with Spike 2 minutes later...

Faye - In the last episode before Spike goes off to fight Vicious, Faye tells him she has her memory back. Now this is silly because we still don't know anything about her really. So all in all she is still useless.

Ed - Its so stupid the way she left... plus the fact she was also a uselss character to the series.

Jet - BORING. We don't know how he met Spike, or why he decided to stay with him and all that type of garbage. -

Visuals (22/25)
This is Cowboy Bebop's strong point. The animation is really clear, sharp, detailed and fluid. Everything is beautiful looking. All of the characters have unique designs. None of them resemble eachother at all. The artist(s?) really made it a point to give each area a different design. I also like the way it was done as they are flying in space... nice CG effects.

Audio (14/25)
This is Cowboy Bebop's second biggest drawback (besides the story). I know alot of people really like the Cowboy Bebop OST, but I hate it. There are only three tracks that I like, they are "The Real Folk Blues", "See You Space Cowboy", and Live in Baghdad". Most of the BGM's are pretty bad and sound out of place.

Concept (12/25)
The concept isn't original at all really. This aired the same year as the two other big named space western anime (The two being Outlaw Star and Trigun). Cowboy Bebop doesn't do anything new or exciting.

Overall (62/100) 6.2
Overall it is an okay series to watch. Nothing amazing but decent enough to watch at least once. I must say though, I can watch "Pierrot le Fou" anytime. I suggest you rent this, or borrow it from a friend if you're able to do so.
